The family of a man who went missing in St Albans on Saturday have made an appeal for information that might lead to his whereabouts.

Alan Spray, 73, who is from Hatfield went missing in St Albans' Verulam Road on Saturday evening. He was last seen walking along towards the Total garage about 8.10pm.

Alan has five children and five grandchildren. His wife, Barbara said of his disaperance: "This situation is heartbreaking. My husband is out there somewhere. We all miss him."

"We all miss him so much and just want him home. Please help us find him."

The couple's son Christopher added: "We miss our kind, gentle and funny dad. There is a huge gap in our family without him."

The family have all appealed for help from the public: "Please come forward with any information you might have, no matter how insignificant you think it might be. It could be vital in helping us and police find him.

"He is a loving husband, father and Grandfather, without him our lives feel empty. We are all missing him so much."

Alan is described as being white, approximately 5ft 9ins tall, balding on top with grey hair to the side and wears light-reactive glasses. When he was last seen he was wearing a brown and blue checked short sleeve shirt and brown/grey trousers.

Police officers have been searching the area since Saturday, supported by colleagues from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire dog unit and specialist search teams. And Bedfordshire Police are also helping appeal for information as Alan has links to the Bedford area.

Those who live in the Verulam Road area are being urged by the police to check their sheds and anywhere else that someone might hide.

If anyone has any information on where Alan is or might be, please contact the police via the non-emergency number 101.

Alan Spray is still missing. I'm sure like many other St Albans residents I received a recorded phone appeal message from the police seeking his whereabouts today. Please be aware that since the above description was released, Alan may have changed his clothes, grown facial hair and have taken on a dirty appearance. This must be such a distressing time for his family. Please take the time to check sheds, outbuildings and anywhere else you can think of where Alan could be sheltering in the Verulam Road / Folly Lane area.
