Pedestrianisation of City Centre - Your Views?

According to a report in the St. Albans Review this week, "more than £340,000 has been earmarked by St. Albans District Council to pay for the part pedestrianisation of the city centre."
The plans, which could be trialled as early as the end of this year or early next year, are bound to be controversial. It could be argued that pedestrianisation will bring more shoppers and other visitors into the centre, whilst others will be concerned that it will lead to increased traffic gridlock as one of the main routes through the centre is cut off to traffic.
What are your views? Will pedestrianisation bring increased trade and other benefits to St. Albans centre, or cause the loss of trade and increased traffic headaches? We're interested in hearing your views, whichever side of the debate you are on.
