London Colney Police Station to Close

Those wondering when they'll see the first visible evidence of the Government's planned spending cuts need not look any farther than London Colney, which will soon lose it's police station.
Hertfordshire Police Authority, which met on Friday, decided to close the station in a bid to save money.
The Chairman of the Authority, Stuart Nagler, told the St. Albans and Harpenden Review, that “This is the first of many difficult decisions we are
going to have to make in the coming weeks to ensure
that Hertfordshire’s high quality of policing services are maintained
in the county despite the 17 per cent cut in our funding."
The station closure means that the nearly 8000 people of London Colney will be without a local police station, with officers and serviced transferred from the village to St. Albans. The village, like most other places, has it's share of anti-social behaviour and other crime, which will no doubt lead many London Colney residents to wonder how the station closure will impact police response times.
Comments
London Colney’s police station is only a part time station and I’d imagine very few members of the public make use of it.
From my experience the crime issues that concern London Colney residents most, as in the majority of Hertfordshire villages, is anti-social behavior and petty vandalism often fueled by alcohol and the perceived threat of violence or ridicule from groups of youths; the solution to this must be officers on foot, especially on a Friday and Saturday night rather than officers in cars racing in from St Albans in reaction to an incident.
