The councillers that sit on the planning committee south are here..

I wasnt at the meeting but i know that Chris Brazier (Lib Dem) is the chap that previously opposed the mosque but was made to step down before the 2nd application and Geoffery Harrison (Lib Dem) is the chap that had the casting vote when  Brazier was forced to step down and gave the go ahead.

There are a further 3 Lib Dems on this committee, none of whom represent London Colney (so i think its safe to assume dont live there), im not a gambling man but i wouldnt be suprised if thats where the votes for came from.

Not that im suggesting that this was a political decision or that Brazier was made to step down to swing the balance by his party to gain votes from a particular section of the community.

(Not my theory, but one i read on a comment on the Review website which makes a lot of sense to me).

Very interesting - it looks as if there may have been some funny business somewhere along the line. HOWEVER this is all now happily irrelevant. Whatever skulduggery there may have been, it has now been (at least temporarily) scotched. I just heard last night that the site has been bought up by someone else, who is NOT proposing to erect a mosque there.

Doesn't mean we don't  have to be vigilant if we want to preserve the inheritance of a village conservation area.

One of the problems faced by the council was that in Planning LAW there was no good reason to turn it down.
So if they did they would be gambling with your money where, if the appeal is granted, the council could have been forced to pay costs.

We've seen time after time the Government Planning Inspectors put things through which local residents have turned down.
Think Telephone masts near to residents houses, housing developments with NO parking provision etc.

You can of course watch the Video Cast of the Planning committee where it was decided as well.
