There were so many good events happening in St Albans this weekend...Monopoly, Open Studios, Heritage Open Days, Polo, Model Show...etc. Did you get along to any of them? And if so, do you have you any photos you can upload to share with the local community here on stalbanspeople?

A great weekend in St Albans with so much to do but why oh why all at the same weekend, there wasn't enough time. We should not have the Heritage Open Day and Monopoly running together. At St Albans Signal Box we were dropped from the Monopoly this year and a large percentage of potential visitors were directed away from the box by the Monopoly route reducing our footfall to less than half of last years numbers. Its very dissappointing when so many people put so much effort in to preparing a Heritage Site to give maximum enjoyment to have the tourist pull the rug from under your feet.

Never mind we are open again on the afternoon of the 25th September so if you missed visiting the award winning St Albans Signal Box over the weekend come and see us on the 25th, Entry is as always FREE

I totally agree that it wasn't the best planned weekend, as like a lot of families in St Albans we were torn as to which events to attend.

As a visitor to the Signal Box, I think it's a real shame that the visitor figures are so down on last years. It was the first time I had been along to St Albans Signal Box and I did so a little begrudgingly as I really thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea. But as the Mum of two boys, I thought they'd be in their element so I went along. I'm really glad I did as it was a really interesting experience. The beautiful gardens there were a big surprise, having traveled into the station so many times before and not having dreamed that there was this fantastic little oasis the other side of the fence. And the muffins on sale were so good we bought two more to take home. My boys loved pulling the levers, and the great model railway displays. The volunteers were so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly, it would have been impossible not to enjoy the visit. I do hope many more turn out for the next open day. And even more so, I do hope that next year's events in St Albans are a little wider spread so we can all make the most of them.
