Can anyone tell me why we have planning committees who think they now what we want even though we pay wages to professionals whose job it is to look after our district. Especially the green belt yes i am moaning about the HILTON HOTEL.

Having sat on one, the first thing to make clear is that anything which makes it to committee means that there are those in favour, and those against.
The last one I was part of gave permission for the New Barnfield Incinerator (I voted against).
The professionals we pay can only implement the rules that they are given, without variation. Of course there are times when even this is open to interpretation.
That's where the Planning committees come in. They are NOT supposed to be party political (no matter what the New Barnfield result shows).

So for a more local example, one committee I was on the residents had asked for the Committee to decide on whether they could have dormer windows in their attic for a room for their son.
Planning rules say no, it's a conservation area. Some neighbours said no, due to fears of overlooking.
Others wrote in favour- extending a house for many is the affordable alternative to moving home.
There was no right or wrong answer, but this is where the committee come in.

I hope that helps... but feel free to ask.

I THINK YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT MOANINIG ABOUT THE HILTON HOTEL.
I THINK HILTON HOTEL IN ST ALBANS WILL BE VERY GOOD FOR THE THIS CITY.
YOU SHOULD BE MOANING ABOUT SHOPS OPENING IN HIGH STREETS THE LIKE OF POUND WORD AND 99P SHOPS.

Why should we complain about the Pound World and 99p shops? Surely they are better than having empty shopping units and are employing people and supplying a service which, judging by their popularity, is wanted.
The average wage in St Albans might be cited as twice the national average, but that hides a lot of us on below average wages which are masked by those on incredible salaries.

The Hilton will not bring you any more customers, as stated at the (committee) they will provide food for there customers and why would anyone mostly staying overnight from the M25 want to travel to the city. They will not drive as the carpark behind the old McDonalds will be full from the other new hotel to be built. As for the planning committee who elects them, do they as joe public there views NO. It is only there options. as most of the committee live nowhere near the hilton site. NOT IN MY BACKYARD
