St Albans Indie band, Friendly Fires are treating their hometown fans to a gig at The Horn on Tuesday 3rd May, just ahead of the launch of their new album, Pala.
I got to hear about the gig via an email to local fans this evening. Tickets are ony on sale at HMV in St Peter's Street and the likelihood is as soon as the news gets out, tickets will sell out in a flash tomorrow morning. The gig is hailed as 'a warm up for larger scale ABOMINATIONS' and is bound to be a typical Friendly Fires high energy performance.
Despite receiving widespread acclaim within the music industry, which led to the band being nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2009, Friendly Fires have been loyal to their St Albans roots. The band formed when the trio met at St Albans School. I was lucky enough to see them perform at the Alban Arena a couple of year's ago and the atmosphere was electric. They delighted local fans with performances of their tropical sounding Jump in the Pool, as well as releases Paris and Skeleton Boy. Singer, Ed Macfarlane kept the audience entertained with his dance moves, which have become almost as notable as the band's music!
The new album, Pala, is due for release in the UK on 16th May and is already available to pre-order on iTunes and Amazon. To get a taste of what to expect from the new album, watch 'Live Those Days Tonight (back to '89 Rave Montage) on YouTube.
If you're popping down to HMV in the morning in the hope of getting a ticket, do let us know how you get on. And if there are hordes of fans lining St Peters Street?
If you're going to the gig, it would be great to read your review, here on stalbanspeople.
And why not share your views on Friendly Fires with other local fans below? Thanks!

HMV still have tickets for the Friendly Fires gig, they're only being sold in person and they can't be reserved. Their advice is get down to HMV In St Peter's Street and secure one in the next hour or two if you want to be in the audience.
