4 Inch Deep Pothole Puts Cyclists and Drivers at Risk
By StAlbansRobin | Sunday, February 21, 2010, 10:09
Thankfully I saw, rather than drove or cycled over, this pothole - measuring over 4 inches deep and wide enough that it's not easily avoidable - on Normandy Road.

4x4 Hits the 4+ Inch Deep Pothole - What if This Was a Pushbike or Motorbike?
The pothole puts hundreds of cyclists, motorists and nearby pedestrians at risk every day. A cyclist, or motorcyclist, hitting such a hole could be easily knocked off their bike, or could be forced to veer out into the busy road. One cyclist, who saw me taking photos, said she was shocked that such a dangerous hole hadn't yet been repaired and thanked me for highlighting the sitution.
Cars hitting the 4+ inch deep crater could puncture their tyre and lose control which, with this being a busy pedestrian route into town and to nearby schools, could place not just motorists at risk but pedestrians as well.
Is this the worst pothole in St. Albans? We doubt it. If you've seen one that's larger, or more dangerous, let us know where to find it.

Station way is in pretty bad state right now.
There's a massive pot hole, possibly 'only 4" deep' on Walton road in the Bernard's Health area that leads on to Sandpit Lane.

ReportThere are number of them about and have reported a load myself.
Best place to do it is:
tinyurl.com/22kyts
This then gets reported to the County Council to sort out.
Then again they're spending so much on consultants and lawyers it's little surprise:

ReportI think I've actually managed to find one that's even worse - at the opposite end of the same road, where it meets Batchwood drive, opposite the shop. It's at least as deep and, believe it or not, possibly larger round. Almost dropped into it on my way off the roundabout a few hours ago.

Reportthe top of Piggotshill hill - around the junction of Topstreet way in Harpenden is diabolical too - there are loads of potholes in Harpendne - but that is easily the worst I've seen.
