St. Albans Conservative MP, Anne Main, has held on to her Parliamentary seat with 40.8% of the vote.

The Liberal Democrat's Sandy Walkington increased his share of the vote

by 11%, coming in second with 19,228 votes, a 36.4% share.

Main's 21,533 votes, a 3.5% gain on the 2005 results, came largely at

the expense of Labour, whose candidate Roma Mills came in third with

only 9288 votes, a 17.6% share.

Just 2305 of the 52,835 votes cast in the district seperated the Main and Walkington - a small amount in what was a very close election with a good local turn out at the polls.

UKIP's John Stocker received just over 2,000 votes, a 3.8% share, with the Green Party's Jack Easton receiving 758 votes, a 1.4% share.
