Supermarket giant Tesco, which lost a fierce planning battle with local campaigners when it submitted plans to build a superstore on the former site of Eversheds, between Alma Road and Lattimore Road, has submitted an application to build homes on the site.

The application for conservation area consent includes the demolishing of nine commercial buildings at the former printer works sites.

According to Cllr Chris Brazier, planning portfolio holder for the District, up to 200 homes, including a mix of flats and houses, could be planned for the site.

The site was previously rumoured to be under consideration as a possible location for a school, aimed at reducing the current shortage of school places in the City Centre.
