New Primary School for St. Albans

News that a Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed they will be building a new primary school in St. Albans will be of little comfort to parents currently applying for a reception place - the deadline is tomorrow - for their child.
The Council will determine, over the next two years, where to site the school. Those who had hoped for a new school in the city centre, where there is a severe shortage of primary places, are likely to be disappointed as the County Council has said that the school will probably be built on green belt land.
Local campaigners have previously pointed out that the Evershed site, which was the focus of a local campaign when Tesco submitted a planning proposal to build a super-store there in 2009, would be a great location for such a school. Unfortunately, the Council doesn't seem to be considering this option.
