Yes, we too are part of the 150,000 brits stuck abroad as a result of the volcano.  .  With the dust circulating and there being no conclusion on when the skyways would open, we made a decision to seek alternative methods of transport. Having no luck with the trains my 7yr old & I  embark on a 28hr journey direct to Victoria (1 change in Northern Spain) from Granada, leaving tomorrow morning!  To me it has been a humbling experience .The way we take for granted our 'command' of the elements and also our reliance on air travel.  I suppose we have been lucky to be visiting relations so we are not like some who find themselves waiting at airports/train stations hungry, bored with no roof over their head.  I know there is massive frustration but this was a totally unavoidable situation.  Yet I hear on the news already, the society we live in is looking to find blame somewhere!

So we set off tomorrow - with slight trepidation but with a keen sense of adventure.  Ok it may result in  an arduous journey but its just 24hrs of our lives - and many used to do that daily to the other side of the world!

Best of luck to you and your daughter on what might well turn out to be quiet an interesting, albeit long, journey.

My wife and two toddlers are also stranded, although with news of the flight ban having been lifted, and flights now reportedly coming in and out of Luton (tinyurl.com/y47p7ul) I'm hoping I can go join them at the weekend then we'll all come home together.

Fingers crossed for you, and us!
