The Evening Standard's Homes & Property section this week tipped St. Albans as the "Saintly City That Got It Right".

"It is the cunning balance between the medieval and the modern that gives this easy-commute town it's buyer appeal" wrote Anthea Masey, the Standard's property expert.

The article goes on to list some of the reasons why people move and stay in St. Albans, including being "surrounded by pretty villages and surprisingly beautiful countryside", schools that get above average results, and the 20 minute commute to London.

Photos of the Abbey, The Maltings shopping centre, shops in George Street and the river passing through Verulamium Park were used to illustrate what our City has to offer.

The best street in St. Albans, according to the Standard, is Marshals Drive, to the North East of the centre, with the area south of Sandpit Lane tipped as an "up and coming" area. The largest new build developments are at Oaklands, where 267 one and two bedroom flats will soon be completed, and Mosaic, a 255 unit development on London Road by Linden Homes.

Siting data from Savills, the article states that house prices in St. Albans have, over the past 15 years, increased in value by 226%, just short of the England and Wales average but quite a bit off the London average of 299%. In the past three years, prices here have rose just 1% vs 3% on average across England and Wales and 9% on average in London.
