The Goat Inn on Sopwell Lane is a really great little pub, which unfortunately often gets overlooked due to being situated slightly further up the road than the White Lion. Obviously the most important parts of pubs are the atmosphere, the food, and the drink, all of which are top notch. The interior is mostly wood paneled and has a really nice rustic feel to it, and theres a massive selection of board games, which is certainly something that most pubs these days are missing it adds a real sense of fun and character, helped along by the traditional bar billiard table. Theres a decent selection of real ales including Tribute and Spitfire, but they also have guest ales every now and then, as well as decent range of larger on tap and some nice wines. Theres plenty of comfy drinking areas and loads of books to browse through too, plus it has the advantage of being a far quieter and more relaxing pub than the sometimes rowdy White Lion. The great thing about this pub that is often overlooked is the food. They have some proper specialist nights including Mexican and fish & chips for £4.95 on a Friday, but for some reason they rarely shout about this, which is a real shame. Some of the meals are truly top-notch food, most impressively the pork chops cooked in cider. The Goat should be a wonderful discovery for those who wish for a more traditional, quieter night than your typical pub, in a place with loads of character.

a small quiet hidden pub away from the hustle and bustle of the main town. very nice and old settings and good for the odd pint or so. definately has the feel of a local pub and occasionally hosts music and quiz evenings. worth a try if you have never been
