the hare and hounds is a great pub for a drink or for some food. nice, quiet, chilled out, without the negatives of the chain pubs and bars in st albans. in summer there is the option to sit outside and watch people go by. go and try it if you have not yet been

ReportThe Hare and Hounds is what I would call a proper pub. It's warm and cosy, with roaring fires in winter and a great pub garden for sunnier days. It's a great place to watch sporting events, largely because of the friendly atmosphere. Good pub food and the wine's pretty respectable too!
I absolutely loved this pub! From the black & white period photographs and paintings on the walls, the chesterfield sofas and battered armchairs, the warm wooden interior with open fire, the friendly bar staff and amazing sausage rolls, to the glimpse of the cathedral from the street. I left cloaked in the comforting aroma of woodsmoke, wrapped in cheer. It was my first experience of a St Albans pub, and I will definitely be visiting again.
I normally associate the Hare and Hounds as being a 'football pub'. However after a trip there last night, I have changed my mind. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was great and the open fires, lighting and candles created a wonderful atmosphere. I will of course be going back for the odd football match, but now I might visit more often. Great!

ReportThe Hare and Hounds is a real gem, a pub tucked away round the back of the cathedral with several very pleasant rooms, candles and subtle lighting, real fires (I still smell of woodsmoke!) and pretty decent wine. Last night we held a meet-up for about thirty people there and were really impressed with the food and how well we were looked after - definitely recommend.

ReportI really like this pub. It's picture postcard from the outside and has a great atmosphere inside. It's a great place to take friends who are visiting from out of town to show them the old, pretty part of St Albans. Also, they have an excellent games selection to make an afternoon of it. Roast dinners are good too - just get there early!
