I recently ate at the Fighting Cocks and had a lovely meal. The portions were enormous though - it's rare I'm unable to devour everything on my plate but that was the case here! I had salsa stuffed mushrooms and then a salmon dish with a horseradish sauce, both of which were delicious. Hubby had a burger, which looked amazing too. Bar staff, who served the food were very switched on and pleasant. Just make sure you go with a good appetite!

Having been told that it was rumoured to be one of oldest pubs in the country, I could not resist checking this pub out. I was hugely impressed with whole experience. The bar staff were unbelievably friendly, the food was fresh, affordable and did not take too long and the place just looked so beautiful that I will have to give this business five stars.

ReportThe Fighting Cocks is once again a great pub. It's been decorated recently which has added to the warm cosy feeling inside. Great character, as one would expect from the oldest pub in Britain. Food is good and the staff are friendly too. Terraced garden gets busy on warm summer nights but that adds to the atmosphere.
It's got a lovely big but secluded garden so it's nice to sit outside. There are some trees for shade.
We had a work event there for 30ish people, and they organised a delicious barbecue.
I haven't actually been *inside* the pub very much, apart from at the bar, but it is very pretty and is supposed to be [one of] the oldest pub[s] in England.
A perfect pub for me. Half way between home and office. Always a great place to take out of towners with the location and history. A large garden out back also helps!

ReportAn excellent spot for a refreshing drink after a stroll through St Albans park on a sunny day(on the rare occasion that we get one!). A pub with a very interesting history. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
