St. Albans residents awoke to the first snow fall of the year this morning, although it was only a slight dusting which melted off as the sun came out in the morning.

We appear to have missed the snowstorms that hit other areas of the country with a vengeance over the past several days, although that might be set to change over the next week.

The temperature in St. Albans is set to fall to -4 on Saturday night, with similar night time lows forecast for the entire week ahead. Daytime highs, too, are forecast to remain at or below freezing all week, and snow flurries are likely on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Many will recall St. Albans being brought to an almost complete standstill, on at least three occasions, by heavy snow last winter, with train services into London cancelled for days and many shops unable to open due to staff not being able to get in.

Are we likely to be in for similar treatment from the weather this winter?
